What is the Jira user directory?

The Jira user directory is where information about users and groups is stored. The saved information includes the full name, password, username, email address, and other personal data. A user directory is supported by a user management system such as LDAP, a database, or a remote user management system such as Atlassian Crowd.

Internal directories store the information in the Jira database. It is possible to connect to external user directories.

In Jira, you can have multiple user directories. This way, you can connect your Jira instance to multiple user management systems (such as a database directory and an LDAP directory).

Jira user directories are managed by Jira administrators.
