What is data erasure?

Data erasure is an accepted method of data cleansing, which is the secure overwriting of digitally stored information using appropriate software. Data erasure can be performed in active or inactive environments and across many resources such as servers, PCs, mobile devices or drives in Data Centers or Cloud environments. The beauty of data erasure is that specific sectors of storage are selectively overwritten with ones and zeros, making the original data permanently unrecoverable.

Numerous data protection regulations, such as the GDPR, require personal data to be deleted according to specific criteria. Therefore, relevant tools to facilitate automated data erasure are essential.
