What is a Jira Epic?

Jira Epic can be defined as a larger form of user-centric story that has been broken down into smaller tasks or user stories on the basis of the specific needs of the customers or the end users. Depending on the particular requirements of the customers, the task is removed or added from the epic. Epics in Jira are used for organizing the work and creating an overall hierarchy.

Epics are also helpful in maintaining the overall agility by organizing larger tasks into the smaller counterparts. These are capable of spanning multiple sprints.
