Jira (/ˈdʒiːrə/ JEE-rə) is pronounced as JEEra.

  • The naming of the product can be regarded as the truncation of ‘Gojira.’

  • It is a Japanese term for Godzilla.

  • The name’s idea came into existence as before the tool was developed, coders at Atlassian made use of a bug-tracking tool named as Bugzilla.

  • The name Jira originated from the nickname that Atlassian developers used to refer with respect to Bugzilla. It was the name that was previously used internally for the purpose of bug tracking.
