Velocity helps to get a clear overview of the current workload, as well as to plan future sprints more decisively.<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"How-is-the-velocity-measured?\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"1857\">How is the velocity measured?<\/h3>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"1888\">There are several ways to measure velocity, such as engineering hours, user stories, and story points. Story points are often used. Here, velocity is calculated by adding up the story points of all completed sprints and dividing by the number of sprints.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2144\">For example, there were<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2171\">in sprint 1: 4 user stories x 8 story points<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2219\">in sprint 2: 5 user stories x 10 story <span id=\"c85da0a7-629b-4b60-9502-1b093770047e\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"c85da0a7-629b-4b60-9502-1b093770047e\">points<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2268\">and in <span id=\"d24e9d49-aa71-4dcf-910a-39bbeed4de9b\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"d24e9d49-aa71-4dcf-910a-39bbeed4de9b\">sprint 3:<\/span> 3 user stories x 8 story poi<span id=\"ce22d03f-26cd-4905-b06d-80a5ea20763b\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"ce22d03f-26cd-4905-b06d-80a5ea20763b\">nts<\/span><\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2320\">In total, for all our sprints, we have 106<span id=\"d1c2173e-d6ae-4acf-9783-d472b7c8aa03\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"d1c2173e-d6ae-4acf-9783-d472b7c8aa03\"> st<\/span>ory points. We divide this by the number of sprints.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2419\"><strong>106 \/ 3 = 35,3<\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2435\"><strong>So our velocit<span id=\"28e4d7f1-8002-4353-b76b-17f4b40ea483\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"28e4d7f1-8002-4353-b76b-17f4b40ea483\">y is 35 story points.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"2472\">This number helps enormously with future sprint planning. If we know that we have 40-story points coming up, it&#8217;s clear that our team can&#8217;t handle that within one single sprint.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<h3 id=\"Velocity-Chart\" data-renderer-start-pos=\"2651\">Velocity Chart<\/h3>\n<p>A velocity chart shows the progress of the team in a visually appealing way \u2013 also ideal for stakeholders! Change the view, select the \u201cSCRUM\u201d filter, and select the corresponding report.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;7046&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Step 2:<\/strong> Click on the reports card to open the Velocity Chart report. Then define the number of closed sprints associated with the chosen project. Also, you can select these options (checkboxes):<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3505\">Display all closed sprints<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3535\">Show table with completed sprints, and<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3578\">Show description<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Pay attention that in order to use the values from \u201cLast closed sprints to display\u201d you need to uncheck the \u201cDisplay all closed sprints\u201d checkbox. If it is checked, then the value from \u201cLast closed sprints to display\u201d is ignored.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;7050&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Step 4: <\/strong>Click the \u201cRefresh\u201d button framed in red to<span id=\"f4fed405-5c73-470a-9583-35aa5e6c314b\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"f4fed405-5c73-470a-9583-35aa5e6c314b\"> <\/span>update the page and display results according to your chosen parameters.[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;7052&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][vc_column_text]<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"3968\"><strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Step 5: <\/strong>In our example, you will see a chart with results that are a brief description of a Velocity Chart, all closed sprints of Scrum projects, and the table with completed sprints.<\/p>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4155\">Pay attention to chart bars:<\/p>\n<ul class=\"ak-ul\" data-indent-level=\"1\">\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4188\">The grey<span id=\"528ece96-b7a3-4acc-b27f-bd78b093d7d6\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"528ece96-b7a3-4acc-b27f-bd78b093d7d6\"> <\/span>bar indicates the amount of work in the sprint when it started (Committed)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4275\">The green bar means the amount of work actually done during the sprint (Completed)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4361\">The black line is the average amount of work in all shown sprints (Average)<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p data-renderer-start-pos=\"4440\">Hovering over the<span id=\"746dc3aa-442a-44df-a129-ef1ec6ab1ad9\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"746dc3aa-442a-44df-a129-ef1ec6ab1ad9\"> <\/span>bar, you can see the sprint name, committed, and completed data in hours.<\/p>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][vc_single_image image=&#8221;7054&#8243; img_size=&#8221;full&#8221; onclick=&#8221;link_image&#8221;][vc_column_text]<strong data-renderer-mark=\"true\">Step 6:<\/strong> Also, you can define only the last closed sprints to display without the table of completed sprints and reports description. To do this, unselect all checkboxes and click the \u201c<span id=\"b9e89f67-dc29-4bc5-a93c-6dd2eb59af6f\" data-renderer-mark=\"true\" data-mark-type=\"annotation\" data-mark-annotation-type=\"inlineComment\" data-id=\"b9e89f67-dc29-4bc5-a93c-6dd2eb59af6f\">Refresh\u201d <\/span>button.
