Ask a Jira admin what they’d fix about their support process, and the answer rarely involves Jira. It involves the person from sales who keeps appearing at someone’s desk to ask whether the bug is done yet.<\/p>\n

Well – your developers work in Jira, your commercial team works in Salesforce. Neither system knows the other exists, so the status travels by human via a Slack message, a tap on the shoulder, or a long meeting on an already busy week.<\/p>\n

So what do you get if you close that gap?<\/p>\n

Fewer interruptions, obviously. Most of them come from one place: somebody in support or sales needs a status, and the only way to get it is to ask a person who can see Jira. Connect the systems and that status appears on the Salesforce record they already have open.<\/p>\n

Issues arrive with context, as well: when a support case creates the Jira issue automatically, it carries what your developers usually have to chase – which customer, which environment, what they were doing, what they already tried.<\/p>\n

Comments, with visibility control.<\/strong> This is where teams get burned. Your developers write internal comments that should never reach a customer, so the integration has to distinguish between what crosses and what stays. Check how any tool handles this before you commit to it.<\/p>\n

Attachments.<\/strong> Screenshots, logs and exports support already collected, so your team isn’t asking for them twice.<\/p>\n

User mapping.<\/strong> Emails rarely match between two systems, especially after an acquisition. Whoever set up Salesforce four years ago used a different convention than whoever set up Jira.<\/p>\n

Custom fields and custom objects come after those. That’s usually where the interesting requirements turn up (and where the cheaper tools stop working).<\/p>\n

So, how to choose? Here are the upsides and downsides of each option:<\/p>\n

Building it yourself<\/strong> looks cheapest on day one. Both platforms have decent REST APIs, and a competent developer moves a status field between them in an afternoon. Everything after that is what gets underestimated: retries, rate limits, field mapping changes, and a piece of infrastructure nobody documented.<\/p>\n

Middleware<\/strong> makes sense when Jira and Salesforce are two of eight systems you need joined. If they’re the only two, you’re buying a platform to solve a point problem, and the bill grows with how much you push through it.<\/p>\n

A Jira-side app<\/strong> keeps the work in your instance, which is comfortable if your team owns Jira and has no say over Salesforce. The trade-off: your Jira admin inherits the configuration, including all the Salesforce-side decisions about which fields matter.<\/p>\n

A Salesforce-native app<\/strong> inverts that. The package installs into the Salesforce org, their admin configures it, and your Jira instance carries nothing extra.<\/p>\n

In practice, most Jira teams are choosing between the two apps: one in their own instance, one in the other team’s.<\/p>\n

How to Choose a Jira-Salesforce Connector<\/h2>\n

So which of the two should a Jira team push for? Counterintuitively, the one that isn’t installed in Jira.<\/p>\n

The instinct is to solve the problem where you have control. But most of the configuration decisions here are Salesforce decisions: which object the issue links to, which fields map, which automation fires, who sees what. Put that configuration on your side, and you inherit questions you can’t answer without asking the Salesforce team anyway.<\/p>\n

Once you know which side it belongs on, two things separate the connectors worth trialling from the rest.<\/p>\n

Every connector on both marketplaces advertises two-way sync, so that line tells you nothing. What differs is what happens once you step off the standard case:<\/p>\n
